Overview Kentfield and Greenbrae are located in the hills between Larkspur, San Rafael and Ross. Greenbrae extends down to Hwy 101 to the bay shore near Larkspur Landing. Greenbrae is the northernmost limit of what we consider Southern Marin (for the purposes of proximity to San Francisco and ease of commute to jobs there). Greenbrae is mostly an upscale suburban neighborhood with sidewalks, great weather, good schools, and nice parks. There is no real downtown area per se, but the more traditional downtown areas of Larkspur and San Anselmo are easily accessible. There are some great commmunity parks and paths along the estuary where Corte Madera Creek opens up to the bay, near the Larkspur ferry terminal and further upstream. Kentfield, like its close neighbor Greenbrae, lies in the unincorporated area of Marin. Kentfield is also a wonderful community, but with a different feel than Greenbrae. The majority of homes are set back from roads on larger parcels, among pine, redwood and manzanita trees. With few sidewalks and meandering streets, the wooded areas of Kentfield feel a bit more rural. City services are provided by the City of Larkspur and the County of Marin (www.co.marin.ca.us). Points of Interest The College of Marin in Kentfield offers courses that appeal to many adults and opens its pool to the public. (www.marin.cc.ca.us) The Bon Air shopping center in nearby Greenbrae offers a number of shops, and Larkspur Landing, just on the other side of Hwy 101, provides an array of shopping and dining opportunities. The Larkspur Ferry Terminal is just a short distance away as well: www.ggt.org Kentfield is close to Mt. Tamalpais, offering miles of beautiful hiking and biking trails, as well as some great parks and playgrounds located in nearby Greenbrae, Ross & Larkspur. Greenbrae is just a short drive from those trailheads. Weather Because of its location, Kentfield gets more rain than most other Marin towns, with an average annual rainfall of almost 50 inches. Greenbrae tends to be a bit hotter. Yet both would be considered ideal climates by most people. Many homes have swimming pools and are built to take advantage of views of the bay or of Mt. Tamalpais and the forested watershed.
