Welcome to Marin! Living and working just a few minutes across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco is ideal. I have lived in some wonderful places--Paris, Tahoe, San Francisco--but can think of nowhere else in the world which offers Marin's unique combination of the good things in life. The natural beauty of a land encompassing seashore, the bay, coastal hills, mountain forests and appealing, small towns with great cafes and small businesses. Our gentle and varied climate. Our great schools. The many recreational opportunities. The strong community involvement. And, of course, the proximity to the cultural and professional opportunities of San Francisco. If you live in Marin and work in San Francisco, it's an easy commute to work from anywhere south of San Rafael--not to mention, one of the most scenic commutes in the world. Many people take the ferry from Larkspur, Tiburon or Sausalito. Others take Golden Gate Transit's commuter buses, or drive, or even ride their bikes across the bridge to work! If you work in the East Bay, it can be an even shorter commute via the San Rafael bridge. Leisure time can be spent on rambles right out your back door--wooded paths along waterfalls, through Redwood forests, or along bay shore paths. The sandy stretch of Stinson Beach is just a 20-25 minute drive away. Mountain biking got its start in Marin County, and there are miles and miles of beautiful offroad trails to explore, from the Marin Headlands overlooking the Golden Gate, all the way up to Nicasio, and out to Bolinas and Point Reyes. Every Marin town boasts some serious playing fields. Check each town's website for a list of their parks and recreational programs. Soccer, Little League Baseball, Rugby, Lacrosse, Cycling, it's all here. I love the strength and vibrancy of the communities which spring up around the schools and other pet causes here in Marin--dedicated groups rich in talent and energy, devoted to causes such as some of these organizations and events listed below. Fabulous restaurants, charming cafes and book stores, farmers' markets, art festivals, film festivals, historic and environmental groups, you'll find all of them here in Marin.
